guests attended a benefit evening of comedy and music for
the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research
the Saturday before last at the Waldorf. The event was called “A
Funny Thing Happened on The Way To Cure Parkinson’s.” Many
of the star’s friends from the entertainment world joined
New York’s business, social and financial leaders to raise
more than $4 million for research.

Among those joining Fox and his wife Tracy Pollan were Jimmy
Kimmel, John Mellencamp, Sarah Silverman, Wanda Sykes, Colin

Maggie Rizer, Silda and Eliot Spitzer, and Elaine
Irwin-Mellencamp.
Since its founding five years ago (November 2000), The Michael
J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) has established
a highly effective campaign to accelerate and expand funding
of research worldwide to find a cure for Parkinson's disease.
By the end of 2005, the Foundation will have funded more than
$65 million in research in three primary areas: detecting and
preventing Parkinson’s disease, restoring dopamine neurons
and their functioning, and reducing complications of treatment. |

honored Albert Hadley and John Stark at the Opening Night Gala of the International Designer Showhouse last month, which
benefited the American Hospital of Paris Foundation.
Christine Schwarzman, as chair of the evening, welcomed 200 guests
to the gorgeous showhouse at 9 East 67th Street, owned by real
estate mogul Janna Bullock.

floors of the
beautifully remodeled townhouse.
Among the guests were Thom Filicia, Michel Witmer, Debbie
Bancroft, Diana Quasha, Yung Hee Kim, Denise and Larry Wohl, and Melissa
Berkelhammer.
Philip Gorrivan’s fifth floor space was titled “ne
pas deranger s.v.p” (“Do Not Disturb”), designed
with the lady of the house in mind, to her a place to escape to
and surround herself with luxurious materials like cashmere, satin
and mink. The focus of the room was a shiny pink satin custom-made
chair with embroidered brown geometric patterns modeled after the
1930s designer Andre Arbus.
In contrast, Charlotte Moss’ Billiard room was fit for the
man of the house, designed as a gathering space for a gentleman
and his friends and, a room for a connoisseur - a lover of art,
furniture, great wines and beautiful objects. The room also features "Digby's
Tent" one of the new fabrics in Charlotte’s collection.
Later on, over at The Pierre for the opening night dinner guests

Schwartz presented Adam Guettel and
the cast of The Light in the Piazza who performed
excerpts from the Tony Award-winning musical.

Junior
Achievement of New York, Inc. (JANY) rolled out the red carpet in downtown New York at its 4th Annual Leadership
Awards
Gala at the World Financial Center Winter Garden. The theme was “Together
We Change Lives” and it infused an evening of festivities
led by emcee, CNBC anchor Ron Insana. The economic
well being and future of children in New York City and Long Island
was very
much the central focus.
This year’s
honorees were: David L. Shedlarz; Volunteer Leader Adrianna
Garza, Community Relations Senior Associate Pricewaterhouse-Coopers,
Alumni Leader Terri Mullan, Administrator and Executive Assistant
Goldman Sachs; Educator (Long Island), Rich Berglin, Teacher,
Hampton Bays Elementary School, Educator (New York City) Neyda
Martinez, Teacher, Bronx Leadership Academy, and Student Leader,
Lisa Kong, John Dewey High School.
Mr. Shedlarz has been Chairman of the JANY Board of Directors for
the past three years and Vice Chairman of Pfizer Inc. Mr. Shedlarz
has been a member of the JANY board for over 13 years and also
serves on the JA Worldwide Board of Directors.
The JANY Annual Leadership Gala Awards recognize ordinary individuals
who have made extraordinary contributions to the growth of
JANY’s
mission to inspire young people be successful. Honorees include
business leaders, educators and students who best exemplify
the JANY values of integrity, respect and innovation while
fulfilling
and reflecting the mission principles.
JANY’s current board chairman, Phil Lynch, CEO, Reuters
America, praised his predecessor as one of the country’s
top leaders in business. “David’s business acumen
is a great asset to JANY,” said Lynch. “The JANY
Board has pledged to do our utmost to build on his efforts
to help children learn to succeed as they move from the classroom
to the business world.”
More than 500 guests including Fortune 500 CEOs and leaders
from corporations, government, and the media industry attended.
