Lunchbox
art auction
items to benefit The
Lunchbox Fund for the Foodbank for NYC
|
The Foodbank
for New York City is the city’s primary supplier
for food for the hungry and helps provide more than 240,000 free meals
served each day – one out of four children in New York depend
on the Food Bank for meals. The Lunchbox Fund which was founded last
year is a non-profit that provides lunch to children in schools in
South Africa who would otherwise go without. Many of these children
are AIDS orphans who are living in child-headed households and cannot
afford to pay their basic school fees of $15 per year.

And for
lucky ones who can make art, watch their diets,
bid and support artists, Frances Hayward along with Tom
Quick opened
up the doors
to her Fifth Avenue building on October 5 for the American Associates
of the Royal Academy. The event was the kick-off for the Academy’s
upcoming gala.
Tom was left as the evening’s sole host, as Frances was on
a rescue mission aboard the Amigo Express, an enormous bus en route
to an animal shelter in Tylertown, Mississippi. She brought back
30 dogs and cats to the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons where
they are now being nursed back to health and hopefully someday soon
reunited with their owners, or new families hoping to adopt. The
money for the trip was raised through the sale of the “Be Kind” bracelets
and CauseCollars that Frances created and sells for $3.

Tom welcomed Royal

Gerschel,
Heather Cohane, Irene Aitken, Annabelle and Alberto Mariaca, Brigitte
Pettit, June Dyson, R. Couri Hay, Sharon Bush, Kitty Ockenden, Barbara
Missett, Mimi Stafford, and Judith Heath to
the cocktail which served as a preview to the Annual Gala Dinner
Dance that is being held November
9 at the Rainbow Room. The evening will honor Anne Armstrong whom
President Ford appointed the first woman Ambassador to Great Britain
in 1976, and the painter and photographer Ed Ruscha.
The Royal Academy’s Executive Director Dorothy Kauffman, along
with Kathryn Steckler and Katie Waltz mingled
with guests like Chei
Imai, David Ford and Pamela Fielder, Aseel Sadik, Michele Gerber
Klein, Gideon Lewin, Joanna Mastroianni, and Alex
Donner and
enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in Frances’ gorgeous Georgian
Suite. David Rockefeller, Lily Safra, and Arthur
Loeb are
among the committee members for the celebration. |

| And,
which speaking of art, on Friday
night last, Paul Kasmin opened an exhibition called
SuperPop and Closet for artist
Kenny Scharf at his gallery. |

| As
you can see for yourself, Kenny brought out the mavens, the serious
collectors, the mad hatters, and the
wild and woolier members of the establishment. |
