This is Fashion Week in New York and it’s party time to the point that it is actually unimaginable even to New Yorkers who, it sometimes seems, do nothing but go to parties. Last night, after his show at the Bryant Park tents, Doug Hannant and his partner/CEO Fred Anderson hosted a party that was a kick-off party for The Black Ball: A Benefit for Keep a Child Alive. Alicia Keys was there, and spoke about the experience of visiting Africa where the AIDS infection is sometimes as high as 40% of the population. The objective of this charity is to get the drugs that are life-sustaining to the people who are infected. Many of the co-chairs of the benefit were there including Beth Rudin DeWoody, Emilia Fanjul Pfeifler, and Debbie Bancroft. The other co-chairs – Alan Cumming, Fabiola Beracasa, Valesca Guerrand-Hermes, and Eileen Naughton may have been there but I didn’t see them. It was basically another of the scores of fashion week parties, this time at a club on West 27th Street (between 10th and 11th) called Cain. And it was fun. Just lots of people, some familiar faces and many we’ve never seen before, good music and lots of interactions.

We ran into Larry and Denise Wohl who were going next door to the party at the club Home for Zac Posen, the young hot designer who recently sold half his business to Sean (“Diddy”) Combs for $75 million. So we joined them. Mr. Posen is the boy of the moment in the fashion media and from all indications, such as an article in Thursday’s New York Times about his domestic life with his boyfriend, the interior decorator Brian Callahan, he’s got his feet on the ground and his business in the cash register, ka-ching-ka-ching.

Like the club we’d come from, Cain next door, it was an open bar and filled with a lot of young people from the fashion industry and even more from the club world. At midnight when we arrived, it was rather quiet – about fifty or sixty people. By one in the morning, it was jammed – hundreds of people dancing and drinking and socializing. More about that on Wednesday.

In the meantime, it’s a cacophony of creative minds and parties for fashion businesses, for charities, for retail outlets and most of all, for the fun of it.
