The Starkey Hearing Foundation held its annual “So the World May Hear” Awards Gala in St. Paul, Minn., and raised a record $4.2 million. The event, which each year recognizes individuals for their significant humanitarian contributions, this year honored Garth Brooks’ Teammates for Kids Foundation, Olive Osmond’s Children’s Miracle Network, the Wayne Gretzky Foundation, and the Richard Schulze Family Foundation.

Garth Brooks, who attended the event with his fiancée, fellow country singer Trisha Yearwood, showed his appreciation for the recognition by bidding $250,000 during a live auction to fund a Starkey trip to South Africa to give hearing aids to people in need.

This spectacular evening included performances by Trisha Yearwood, singer/songwriter Michael Bolton, and pop and stage performer Donny Osmond. Dozens of additional celebrities— including Lorraine Bracco, Robert Culp, Lou Ferrigno, Senator John Glenn, Marlee Matlin, Leslie Nielsen, Mickey Rooney, Marion Ross, and many others also attended the event.

"We’re here to make money to help people, and that’s a great thing,” said Lorraine Bracco, who participated in the event for the second year in a row.

Since 1973, the Starkey Hearing Foundation has been giving the gift of hearing to the world’s underprivileged—especially children—through its internationally recognized mission trips and its domestic program, Hear Now. Since 2000, the Foundation has provided more than 115,000 hearing aids to those in need around the world. To learn more about the Starkey Hearing Foundation, visit www.sotheworldmayhear.org.

Retiring Executive Directors Tony Hitchcock and Jean Lindgren were honored for their three decades of leadership and dedication to the Hampton Classic Horse Show at a special benefit that raised more than $60,000 for the Equestrian AIDS Foundation and "The Ride for Hope."

Melissa Cohn and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Puris hosted the "cabaret" benefit on the Wednesday evening of the Hampton Classic at the Bridgehampton Racquet & Surf Club. They joined Hampton Classic President Dennis Suskind, Equestrian Aids Foundation Vice President R. Scot Evans and television personality James Lipton in honoring Hitchcock and Lindgren in a brief yet moving ceremony.

Following the ceremony, Show Circuit Magazine presented a special performance by acclaimed Broadway star Deborah Cox. Ms. Cox, who dazzled the more than 250 guests with her performance on the "cabaret stage," is best known for her outstanding performances in the musical hit "Aida."

In their roles as Executive Directors, Hitchcock and Lindgren guided the growth of the Hampton Classic from a small horse show at Dune Alpin Farm in East Hampton to one of the America's largest and most prestigious horse shows. Now located in Bridgehampton, the show annually attracts over 1400 competitors and 50,000 spectators.
