Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) of the Hamptons held their annual gala,
“Meow Meow Bow Wow Ball”

Last Saturday night in Southampton the Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) of the Hamptons held their annual gala, the “Meow Meow Bow Wow Ball” at Chuck and Ellen Scarborough’s house on First Neck Lane. Maria Bockmann, Wendy Vanderbilt Lehman, Ellen Scarborough, Helen Schifter were Gala Chairmen.

They honored H. Virgil Sherrill and Peter Marino for their extraordinary generosity to ARF and their commitment to its mission to care for our four-legged friends.

DPC's rescue, Missy
JH's super-mutt Oliver, fast asleep (don't worry folks, he's just fine)
There were cocktails before 7:30 and dinner at 8:30 with dancing – music provided by Peter Duchin and his orchestra – and an auction conducted by Christie’s George McNeely.

Among the ARF supporters attending: Tina and Anthony Addison, Muffie and Dr. Sherrell Aston, Sara and Charlie Ayres, Cornelia and Marty Bregman, Fiona and Stanley Druckenmiller, Anne Hearst, Woody Johnson, Sandra McConnell, Katharina Otto- Bernstein and Nathan Bernstein, Anne and John Pyne, Carol and Stewart Rahr, Kathy and Billy Rayner.

Animal Rescue is an issue where, like domestic and child abuse, the task is always pressing and at times seems endless. Those who are actively involved know the pain and anguish of these little creatures who have to endure abandonment as well as the insensitivity, stupidity and cruelty of those of us humanoids who create burdens for the rest of us. Anyone who gives time and money to assist is a hero in my book. ARF deserves your support.

NYSD readers know that a few years ago JH adopted Oliver at one of these benefits. Mr. Oliver, pictured above with one of his distant cousins – also adopted, Missy — continues to serve as that man’s best friend, not to mention the best friend of a lot of JH’s acquaintances.

The Hamptons International Film Festival and Elle Magazine ended their sizzling Summer Premiere Series, chaired by Cinema Society founder Andrew Saffir, with a special screening of the much anticipated “Proof”. The film, from Hart Sharp Entertainment & Miramax, is based on the acclaimed Broadway play, and stars Gwyneth Paltrow as a young woman haunted by her father's past, having spent much of her life caring for her mathematical genius father (Anthony Hopkins). The arrival of a former student of her father's (Jake Gyllenhaal), forces her to confront the most perplexing problem of all ... how much of her father's genius - or madness - did she inherit?

The high profile summer party, Crest Whitestrips Presents: Music of Love, A White Hot Benefit For The VH1 Save The Music Foundation, was held at the Reid’s East Hampton Estate last July 29th. The Reids host this benefit every year because “we believe that we are investing in our children’s education and helping to ensure a brighter future for our youth,” said Morris Reid, managing director of Westin Rinehart, a New York and Washington D.C.-based strategic communications and marketing firm. “Each year we aim to raise the caliber and success of the event. This year we more than doubled the amount raised in years past.”

“Because of the Reids and VH1 Save the Music more public school studnets will be able to experience music firsthand,” said Paul Cothran, Executive Director, VH1 Save The Music Foundation.
