Last Saturday Anne Hearst hosted a dual benefit for Hudson Riverkeeper and Peconic Baykeeper at her new home, Ash Grove Farm and brought out a big crowd of supporters, many of whom rarely make appearances at fund-raising benefits such as Ralph Lauren, John McEnroe and Caroline Kennedy and Ed Schlossberg. The hostess’ daughter and co-host Amanda Hearst was the Hudson Riverkeeper’s junior committee chair. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. was among the featured speakers. Christie Brinkley, Peter Cook, Alec Baldwin and Lorraine Bracco were on the committee of honorary members.

There was a cocktail party from 6:30 to 9 for a $250 ticket ($125 for a junior ticket). Afterwards there was a private champagne supper served at the Hearst home after 9 PM. Tickets for that event started at $2500. Then there was an “after party,” hosted by the Junior Committee that took place at the Star Room in Wainscott.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the two nonprofit organizations, Hudson Riverkeeper and Peconic Baykeeper. These organizations serve the interest of all communities and all of its citizens, watching and protecting the water we drink and use.

The benefit featured a full buffet, open bar, hula dancers for entertainment and a silent auction, with a Hawaii 5-0 “island sexy” theme. The event was also hosted by Elisabeth Kieselstein-Cord, Eleanor Lembo and John Ylvisaker, Charlotte Ronson, Katie Zorn and Douglas Hand, Dori Cooperman, Rich Akiva, Kira Cohen, Christian Floyd, Jeffrey Goldstein, Shoshanna and Josh Gruss, Mike Heller, Rachel Peters and Jennifer Raines.

As the greatest public health crisis faced by the world today, the MIPC decided two years ago to fight the problem of mental illness and created an international program with leading institutions throughout the world. The initial focus of the center is on early detection and prompt intervention, with screenings of college students who are at risk for depressive and anxiety disorders. The center strives to bring attention to this growing problem, professing: depression is the 4th leading cause of disability days in the world and soon will be the 2nd; four of the five leading causes of disability days in the US are psychiatric; violence is rampant; while we get richer, we get sicker; prevention is the only answer!
