The United Hospital Fund presented its Distinguished Trustee Awards to 34 New York City hospital trustees at a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The honorees, all volunteers, were recognized for their leadership, guidance, and extraordinary service to the city’s not-for-profit hospitals.

Among the award recipients were prominent leaders of New York’s business, legal, academic, and medical communities, as well as those involved in social service and community organizations.

Co-chairmen of the luncheon were Brooke Garber Neidich, the chair of the NYU Child Study Center and a trustee of NYU Hospitals Center, and Dean R. O’Hare, retired chairman and CEO of Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, and the co-chair of the board of trustees of the Hospital for Special Surgery.

The trustees were nominated by their respective institutions — the Fund’s beneficiary not-for-profit hospitals — which include community hospitals as well as academic medical centers in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.

“The commitment of these trustees to the hospitals they serve makes them a vital force in New York City’s rapidly changing health care system,” said James R. Tallon, Jr., president of the United Hospital Fund. “They provide a unique perspective, combining sensitivity to local needs
with a concern for quality and fiscal responsibility. Recognizing their invaluable role and supporting their efforts on behalf of New York City’s voluntary hospitals are central to the mission of the United Hospital Fund.”

The United Hospital Fund is a health services research and philanthropic organization whose mission is to shape positive change in health care for the people of New York.
