ABT's opening night celebration at the Music Center’s
Dorothy Chandler Pavilion

ABT dancers at the Music Center of Los Angeles County
Celebrities and socialites danced the night away with stars from American Ballet Theatre (ABT) during the opening night celebration at the Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The event, hosted by Center Dance Association (CDA) and ABT, celebrated the iconic dance company’s 4-day engagement. The sleek and chic party atmosphere was perfectly complemented with Patina’s “retro” catering, specialty bars and an incredible DJ spinning the hottest music while guests and ABT dancers mixed it up on the dance floor!

The evening began with Anjelica Huston and Pierce Brosnan onstage to welcome everyone. This set the mood for a knock-your-socks-off performance by ABT stars, including the company’s brilliant Angel Corella, Gillian Murphy, and Marcelo Gomes. After the performance, it was off to the Grand Hall, which had been transformed into a mid-century nightclub/lounge created by designer Marianne Weiman-Nelson.

Renowned florist Eric Buterbaugh added to the sleek, luscious look using mirrors, floating candles and exquisite “sunken orchid” arrangements. Frei Brothers offered the guests a diverse wine tasting, and Grey Goose vodka supplied specialty cocktails such as everybody’s favorite ABTini.

Guests included Anjelica Huston and Robert Graham, Pierce and Keely Brosnan, Sharon Lawrence, Andrea Parker, Cyd Charisse, Leonard Nimoy, Vanessa Marcel, ABT star dancers, CDA Founding Chair Liane and Richard Weintraub, Kimberly and Music Center Chair John Emerson, Charles and Danica Perez, Patricia Kennedy and Lee Iaccoca, Maria and Bill Bell, Joan and John Hotchkis, Constance Towers and John Gavin, Anne and Arnold Kopelson and more.

Proceeds from the event support the ABT Los Angeles engagement and CDA’s Outreach programs. Center Dance Association Outreach Programs: Created to support the Music Center’s world class dance presentations, CDA is also deeply committed to bringing the power of dance to children – especially those who lack access – through free tickets, rehearsal invitations, lectures and season-related activities on the Plaza. CDA’s partnerships with local and national charities such as everybody dance!. City Hearts, Free Arts for Abused Children, and the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, are helping to improve hundreds of children’s lives.

Fountain House, founded in 1948 by former patients of Rockland State Hospital, is one of the world's former providers of psycho-social rehabilitation services for men and women recovering from major mental illness. Its success lies in its positive and holistic approach to recovery. It focuses on members' strengths and abilities, rather that weaknesses or disability. They believe that every person with mental illness has the potential to succeed. They provide support in finding a home, returning to school, re-entering the workplace, and re-establishing connections to family, friends and community to 1,300 people annually.

Through community outreach, advocacy, and unique programs such as Fountain Gallery, an artists' cooperative, and High Point Farm, a working farm and nature preserve, they work within the community to break down the damaging stigma associated with mental illness and create new opportunities for our members.

The Fountain House model has been replicated at more than 400 sites in 30 countries and 32 states, serving over 55,000 people with mental illness around the globe. Fountain House has received a Gold Achievement from the American Psychiatric Association in recognition of its work.
