The
Whitney Museum of American Art held its 3rd Annual ART PARTY last Thursday
at Splashlight
Studios at 529 West 35th Street. This is a highly anticipated
event and a highlight on many a young New Yorker’s social
schedule. Hosted by the Whitney Contemporaries, this is the second
year that
the proceeds from the ART PARTY benefit the Whitney Independent
Study Program (ISP), the renowned studio, art curatorial and critical
studies
graduate program, now in its 39th year.

director of the ISP, Joanne Leonhardt Cassullo, Alan
Cumming, Rachel Feinstein, Milla Jovovich, Philae Knight, Zac
Posen, Tom Sachs and
Whitney Director Adam D. Weinberg.
The benefit committee comprises Whitney Biennial Curators,
members of the Executive Committee of the Whitney Contemporaries,
ISP Graduates and prominent young professionals from the art,
fashion, entertainment, and corporate communities.
The party featured a live performance by René Risqué & the
Art Lovers, the hilarious art rock band hailed everywhere from the
New York Times as “catchy high-gloss glam-rock” to Time
Magazine as America’s “Best Lounge Act”.
Each year, emerging and established artists alike donate their
artwork for what has become a prestigious silent auction. This
year’s
silent auction included approximately 30 artworks donated by
artists such as Alexis Rockman, Jeremy Blake, Jessica
Craig Martin, Joseph
Kosuth, Toland Grinnell, and more.
