10/21. Brisk and sunny Monday in New York. Busy day in New York. Over at the Mandarin Oriental the Center for Advancement of Women hosted its fifth annual benefit luncheon honoring Abby Disney, Pat Mitchell of the Paley Center for Media, Dr. Nancy Snyderman and the posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Allan Rosenfield, Dean Emeritus of the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia, presented by Faye Wattleton.
Last night the Lenox Hill Hospital held their event at the Waldorf. Gods Love We Deliver held its 2nd annual Golden Heart Awards Celebration at the Frank Gehry designed IAC Building honoring Harry Slatkin and Roz Gilbert. Lighthouse International held its gala, Light Years: The Lighthouse Salutes the Arts, honoring Michael Feinstein, Katherine Oliver and Mario Buatta at Cipriani 42nd Street. The Whitney Museum held its Gala and Studio party at the museum.
I began the night over at the Park Avenue Armory at 67th and Park Avenue where Tiffany was hosting a cocktail party for its Design Director John Loring and yet another of his multi-volume history of Tiffany and its amazing collections of jewelry and silver, entitled Tiffany Style; 170 Years of Design. |

From the Armory I went over to The Frick Collection where they were holding their annual Autumn Dinner. This dinner has been named one of the “Parties of the Year” by the Times. I like it because 1. It is held in the Frick with two long tables occupying the entire West Gallery surrounded by its masterpieces, and 2. It is very low-key and elegant.
There is nothing and no one who outshines this magnificent museum. To be present there is to have one’s mind put at ease however briefly, and everyone responds.
It is a very quiet but grand evening. Black tie for men and women in long dresses. Cocktails are held in the atrium. Galen Lee, the Collection’s in house designer/landscape artist devised a HOT HOT tropical plant and flower shceme of orchids, bold colors such as orange and magenta amid silver candelabra.
273 attended and more than $1 million was raised to help support the museums programs including educational and curatorial initiatives as well as The Frick Art Reference Library.
This year’s dinner honored Countess Giulia Maria Mozzoni Crespi, founder of FAI, the National Trust for Italy. Countess Crespi was unable to fly at this time, for reasons of health, and her award was accepted by her son Luca Crespi.
This year’s chairs were Ambassador Daniele Bodini, Donna Josey and Pilar Crespi Robert. Patrons for the evening were John and Constance Birkelund, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Eberstadt, Marchesi de’Frescobaldi, Mrs. Henry Clay Frick II, Agnes Gund, Christian K. Kessee, Strategic Real Estate Advisors and Aso O. Tavitian.
