Last Thursday night they held The Conservatory Ball at The New York Botanical Garden. This is the second to last great gala benefit of the Spring season in New York.

The Gala Chairmen were Mrs. Jeremy H. Biggs, Mrs. Richard L. Chilton, Jr., Mrs. Charles B. Johnson, and Mrs. B. Robert Williamson, Jr. The Chairmen’s Committee consists of Mrs. Christopher Cuomo, Mrs. James B. Fairchild, Mrs. Timothy M. George, Mrs. Edward Kaplan, Christian Leone, Mrs. Sylvester F. Miniter IV, Mrs. George P. Taylor V, and Mish Tworkowski. The Honorary Chairmen are Mrs. Coleman P. Burke, Mrs. Marvin H. Davidson, Mai Hallingby Harrison, Mrs. John S. Hilson, Mrs. Carlisle Jones, and Mrs. John R. Robinson.

This may also be one of the last of the great charity galas that lists the women by their husband’s names, as was the fashion and tradition throughout the first seven decades of the 20th century.

The Conservatory Ball is a beautiful evening, with cocktails held in the Perennial Garden right after the sun has set. From there people move into the Conservatory tent for dinner and dancing.

Cartier served as the Ball’s sponsor. The Principal Benefactors for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Chilton, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Charles B Johnson, and William D. Rondina.
Holly Cutting, Diane Sammons, Beth Taylor, Susan Sleeper, and Mimi Moulton
Hilaire O'Malley, Hans and Julia Utsch, Elliot Merck, and Mrs. and Mr. Doug Lake
All proceeds raised will support the core mission of the Botanical Garden, including internationally acclaimed programs in children’s education and botanical research. The on-going generosity of our loyal friends in this challenging economic climate is so crucial, and it helps the Garden continue its mission of public education, scientific research, and stewardship of our landmark site.
