New York to Palm Beach

The Highlander docked in Palm Beach.
In case you missed: The Cinema Society and W Magazine teamed up for a showing glitz and film for the Sundance Channel’s “Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton.” The documentary, created by French director Loic Prigent, is a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of the American designer, New York-born and bred Marc Jacobs, now the creative energy for Louis Vuitton and a part-time resident of Paris.

Both Jacobs and Prigent attended the screening, along with Andrew Saffir, creator of the Cinema Society, and W Magazine publisher Nina Lawrence at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. Afterwards, the stellar troops made their way over to a dazzling party at the Mercer Hotel. All so chic, non?

There was also a presentation of the Spring 2008 Ralph Lauren Collection which also celebrates Ralph Lauren’s 40th anniversary. For Lauren fashion lovers, vintage Lauren, a world all its own, without peer. The collection was inspired by garden parties, opening day at the races, Ascot, and features a jazzy array of lush floral prints in clingy, super-chic dresses, eveningwear and accessories. A commercial is this paragraph but for aficionados – and there are planeloads – a paean to the pleasure.

Also down in Palm Beach: Kip Forbes, his sister Moira Forbes Mumma, Tom Quick, Diane N. Weiss, who is working on an innovative rehab center regarding injured US soldiers with Brown University, David Park, Craig and Michele Millard, who hosted last year's event at their home, Alyne Massey, Bob and Jane Souaid, and Allison Weiss Brady, who just co-chaired a fundraiser for Congressman Patrick Kennedy D-RI all gathered in Palm Beach to host an intimate charity event aboard The Highlander, the Forbes yacht. They raised more than $65,000 to benefit Moira's non-profit The Community Coalition, which helps the homeless.

Joining The Forbes family at their event was a Who’s Who of Palm Beach, Miami and all points east and west: The Duchess of Marlborough, Chip Brady, Frances Hayward, Marianne Castle, Aaron Glickman, Sandy Sanchez, yacht broker Alex Clarke, Edgar and Nicole Lozano, Tom Zetkov, VanessaHenry of Worth Avenue's Betteridge, Greenleaf & Crosby, Betsyand Wallace Turner, Judge Rex Ford, June Racine, Jessie Araskog, George Tsandikos, Elizabeth Munson, Mario Capobianco, Stephan and Rita Lloyd, Raul andNikki Pupo, and Bob Szalay.

Dinner included a delicious chicken, steak, scallops, yellow rice, tomatoes and avocado, and the Forbes' famous corn pudding, followed by a chocolate lava cake. After dinner the live auction started, conducted by Tom Quick, and started with bidding for delectable wines. A magnum of 2003 Chateau Coos d' estuarine, 1996 Chateau Lafitte Rothschild, premier cru, a bottle of 1986 and 1996 Chateau Meraux, and wines from the Forbes private collection not sold in the United States, all peaked the interested of the crowd.

The two grand prizes were the private dinner party for twelve in the Forbes Townhouse in New York, and the trip for fourteen people to the Forbes' Chateau de Bolero in Normandy. The Chateau in Normandy brought fond memories back to event co-host Hillie Mahoney because that is where she spent her honeymoon years ago, she told the crowd.

The proceeds raised will go to help the homeless find housing, job placements, and keep families together through the dedication and hard work of The Community Coalition. For more information, visit TheCommunityCoalition.org.
