Event Title: Tanenbaum's 16th Annual Award Ceremony and Memorial Lecture. Event Description: Peter Steinfels, religion columnist for The New York Times and Co-Director of the Fordham Center on Religion and Culture delivers this year’s Rabbi Marc H. Tanenbaum Memorial Lecture, the evening’s keynote, on religious issues in contemporary society. Steinfels will also be honored with Tanenbaum’s Media Bridge-Builder Award for his contributions to the public discourse on religion. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts President and former International Rescue Committee President Reynold Levy will be given Tanenbaum’s Corporate Bridge-Builder Award for a lifetime of achievement including his work addressing and focusing public attention on global humanitarian crises. The Honorable John C. Whitehead, former Deputy Secretary of State; philanthropist Peter G. Peterson, retired Chairman of the Blackstone Group and Founder of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation; and actor James Gandolfini will be on hand to present awards and offer remarks. Established in 1992 as a non-sectarian organization, the Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding reduces and prevents the violence perpetrated in the name of religion by supporting religious peacemakers in areas of armed conflict, and by overcoming religious intolerance in workplaces, health care settings and schools.
