Event Title: The Cooper Union For The Advancement of Science and Art celebrates its 150th Anniversary at its Urban Visionaries Awards Dinner. Event Description: On Monday, November 2, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at 7 World Trade Center, leaders from the art, architectural, science, and academic communities will celebrate The Cooper Union For The Advancement of Science and Art’s 150th anniversary at the college’s seventh annual Urban Visionaries Award Dinner and Silent Art Auction. Urban Visionaries awards are bestowed upon distinguished individuals whose outstanding contributions to city life exemplify the spirit of innovation and creative and civic values championed by The Cooper Union. This year’s honorees are: Yoko Ono, Visual Art; Terry J. Lundgren, Urban Citizenship; Cesar Pelli, Architecture; Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D., Engineering & Science; Leslie M. Hewitt (A’00), Emerging Talent; and Thom Mayne, The Lafayette Medal. The benefit, expected to raise $500,000, will include a cocktail reception and silent art auction of small works donated by contemporary artists and architects including honorees Ono, Mayne and Hewitt; Christo and Jeanne-Claude; Jenny Holzer; Stephen Doyle; Neal Slavin; and Seymour Chwast, followed by dinner and the awards presentation. Corice Canton Arman; Clo and Charles S. Cohen; and Anita and Neal Slavin will serve as Dinner Chairs. On the evening of November 2, in celebration of The Cooper Union’s 150th anniversary and its Urban Visionaries, the Empire State Building will be lit in the college’s official colors of maroon and gold.
