Party Pickins

Christopher Cerf, Carin Mei, MIchael Heumann, Alexandra, Peter Cary, Paige, and David Peterson
On a Saturday night, a week ago at the Spanierman Gallery at East Hampton there was a reception for Paige Peterson and her new exhibition of pictures. I wasn’t there but she sent me the message:

“The night was really great. All of my wonderful pals showed up. Friends and family crossed the country and state lines and drove and flew to get to the Spanierman Gallery.

“56 pieces of work ranging from 8x10 inches to 9 feet. Landscapes without people and people without landscapes.  Paintings of the view from my deck in the Springs. I paint Gardiner's Island over and over again. I paint the weather. I paint my friends and family. I paint what I see and what I look at from my deck.”

I love her stuff. The exhibition runs through July 21. The Gallery is at 68 Newtown Lane (in the rear of Newtown Lane in Newcourt Mall). East Hampton. You can have a look by clicking here.

Robert Verdi hosted a fabulous cancer-kicking SPALAPALOOZA on the roof top of the Cornelia Day Resort for the Cancer Vixen Fund at St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers to provide breast care and well-being for the uninsured and underinsured.

There were amazing Apps by Da Silvano, a live auction conducted by Steve Schirripa, a guest performance by singing sensation Tina Brown and a Delicious DJ Willie Fahy.

The Cancer Vixen Fund was established by Marisa Acocella Marchetto. When Mrs. Marchetto was diagnosed with breast cancer three weeks before getting married to Silvano Marchetto (of Da Silvano), she did not have health insurance. When she was writing her very straightforward memoir Cancer Vixen, she discovered that 49% of the women who are diagnosed with breast cancer and don’t have insurance have a greater risk of dying from the disease. Mrs. Marchetto believes that it is crucial for everyone, insurance or not, that they have proper screening. Since she started the Fund two years ago, they’ve raised $277,000 for the cause.

The Museum Council of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston held its 5th annual Summer Party (black tie) a couple of weeks ago at the museum at 465 Huntington Avenue. It was an evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, desserts, music by DJ Deja, and dancing. The inspiration for this year’s event was a Latin American Feria de Arte, inspired by pieces from the MFA’s Collection and the new Art of the Americas Wing.

The Museum Council is one of Boston’s oldest young professionals groups, made up of philanthropic professionals age 21 – 45 with a mission of bringing together art enthusiasts from diverse professions and backgrounds, in support of the Museum of Fine Art.
