2013 American International Fine Art Fair opens
The International Art, Antique and Design Fair of the Palm Beaches
By Augustus Mayhew
On Tuesday night, I trekked over to this year’s American International Fine Art Fair held at the convention center on WPB’s Okeechobee Boulevard. Although this year’s event appeared trimmed from previous years, I surprisingly found quite a few galleries and art works that I liked. Mallett never disappoints, if not a sensational presentation. Berengo Studio 1989, a Venetian glass gallery, showcased an array of glass artisans. I enjoyed several Cubist-Constructivist paintings by unfamiliar artists. Then, there was Christopher Walling’s museum-quality necklaces composed of colossal Chinese pearls
With my raw vegan house guests gone back to the cold, I am no longer awakened by the sound of hammers gently opening Thai coconuts and a concert of whirring mixers blending exotic powders, raw eggs, Italian mineral waters, vegetables, and frozen organic berries into potent elixirs. As a house gift, they left me 25 large brown folded paper bags from Whole Foods. My every-other-night vegan dinners at Darbsters finished, I am free to indulge in a cheeseburger and fries at Michael McCarty’s or the savory guava roast pork nachos at Lantana Jacks, a new venture opened by three former employs at The Breakers who seem intent on making their fortune with food and drink.
