Late last month, The Millbrook Hunt held its annual Hunt ball. Founded in the 1890s, The Millbrook Hunt is widely acknowledged as one of the premier equestrian organizations in North America and has been a fixture for over 100 years. The presence of the Millbrook Hunt supports and enhances the character and atmosphere of the area and helps to maintain the overall quality of life and historic traditions of the region.
The Hunt sponsors equestrian-related events, including trail rides, hunter paces, hunter trials and hound and puppy shows, many of which are open to the entire community. The Hunt also maintains riding trails at its own expense. |
 |
| A most important benefit of the Millbrook Hunt has been to strengthen the concept of “open space” in the greater Millbrook area and it plays a vital role in supporting land conservation and stewardship and the preservation of wildlife habitats. The equestrian traditions of Millbrook are a critical element in the broad effort to contain development in the the countryside, thereby maintaining the rural and agrarian spirit which is a foundation of the community. |

Late last month, nearly 150 of Chicago's most philanthropic women joined Bunky Cushing at the Palmer House Hilton to celebrate his 12th Annual Handbags & Halos Luncheon benefiting Howard Brown Health Center. The event raised more than $50,000 through its handbag raffle.
Guests were treated to the sounds of Stanley Paul and a wonderful keynote address from Hutton Wilkinson, President and Creative Director of Tony Duquette, Inc. Hutton shared a fascinating presentation about his more than thirty years as colleague, and ultimately, business partner of the famed jewelry and interior designer.

| Foundation members Michele Kessler and Karin Luter hosted the Par 3 Foundation Dinner/Dance at Club Colette on November 15, 2012. Over 130 guests were in attendance to celebrate the leadership of Raymond and Maria Floyd and the Par 3 Foundation for their tremendous efforts with the renovation of the Town’s Par 3 Golf Course and the upcoming construction of a new clubhouse. The golf course re-opened for play in December 2009 and has been a success story ever since. |

Construction plans are being finalized for the Smith & Moore designed Key West style clubhouse. Ground breaking is expected to take place in February 2013, with the grand opening in December 2013. The event was a fundraiser for the clubhouse, but also served as a tribute to Mrs. Floyd, who passed away in September. Mrs. Floyd was the driving force behind the clubhouse and spent this past summer working with Mr. Floyd and the architects to get the design just right.
Guests were treated to a first course of colossal lump crabmeat and smoked salmon. The main course was rack of lamb with potatoes anna and cranberry-apricot chutney. A coconut cake with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce was served for dessert. |

Joan’s Legacy: Uniting Against Lung Cancer’s Strolling Supper with Blues and News recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. The annual lung cancer research benefit was held on November 14, 2012, attended by 700 guests who joined to support the foundation and the many important strides it has made in the name of lung cancer research throughout the years.
Special moments throughout the evening included an energetic performance by Grammy award winning blues musician Delbert McClinton, a rich silent auction complete with luxury items and once-in-a-lifetime experiences up for bid, a kickoff from the Cardinal Spellman marching band, and delectable food and cocktails. Host Brian Williams of NBC and emcee Bill Ritter of ABC led the audience through the night. $1.3 million was raised for lung cancer research. |
